Description
A delicious Thanksgiving soul food feast featuring traditional dishes.
Ingredients
- Turkey – 1 whole, 12-14 lbs
- Collard Greens – 2 lbs
- Sweet Potatoes – 4 medium
- Cornbread – 1 batch
- Macaroni and Cheese – 1 large dish
- Gravy – 2 cups
- Cranberry Sauce – 1 can
- Pecan Pie – 1 large
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Prepare the turkey by seasoning it and placing it in a roasting pan.
- Roast the turkey for about 3-4 hours until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- While the turkey cooks, wash and chop collard greens.
- Cook collard greens in a large pot with water and seasoning for about 1 hour.
- Peel and boil sweet potatoes until tender, then mash with butter and sugar.
- Prepare cornbread according to the recipe and bake.
- Cook macaroni and cheese and bake until bubbly.
- Make gravy from turkey drippings.
- Serve turkey with sides and finish with cranberry sauce and pie.
Notes
- Let the turkey rest for at least 30 minutes before carving.
- Adjust seasonings to taste for each dish.
- Feel free to make dishes ahead of time to save time on Thanksgiving Day.
