Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Royal icing for decoration
  • Assorted candies for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Add molasses, egg, and vanilla to the butter mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix to form a dough.
  6. Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thick and cut into train shapes.
  7. Place the shapes on a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  8. Let cool completely before decorating with royal icing and candies.
