Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey (1214 lbs)
  • 2 cups bread crumbs
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 teaspoons sage
  • 2 teaspoons thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 cups chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Melt butter in a skillet and sauté celery and onion until soft.
  3. In a large bowl, combine bread crumbs, sautéed vegetables, herbs, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add chicken broth gradually until mixture is moist.
  5. Stuff the turkey with the bread mixture.
  6. Place turkey in a roasting pan and cover with foil.
  7. Roast for 3-4 hours, basting occasionally.
  8. Remove foil for the last 30 minutes to brown the skin.
  9. Check the internal temperature, it should reach 165°F (75°C).
  10. Let turkey rest before carving.
