Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light.
  4. Add egg, vanilla, and peppermint extracts. Mix well.
  5. Gradually add flour mixture. Combine until smooth.
  6. Divide dough; tint half with red food coloring.
  7. Roll out both colors into ropes. Twist together to form canes.
  8. Place on baking sheets and bake for 9-11 minutes.
  9. Cool completely before icing.
  10. Decorate with royal icing once cooled.
