Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey (1214 lbs)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Remove the turkey from packaging and pat dry with paper towels.
  3. Rub the softened butter all over the turkey.
  4. Season the turkey with salt and pepper.
  5. Place the onion, carrots, celery, rosemary, and thyme inside the turkey cavity.
  6. Place the turkey in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
  7. Roast the turkey for about 3 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  8. Let the turkey rest for 30 minutes before carving.

Notes

  • Brining the turkey overnight can add flavor and moisture.
  • Use a meat thermometer for accurate cooking temperature.
  • Cover the turkey with foil if it starts to brown too quickly.
