Description
A traditional Thanksgiving meal celebrating Black family heritage.
Ingredients
- Turkey – 1 whole (12-14 pounds)
- Collard Greens – 2 pounds
- Macaroni and Cheese – 1 large casserole
- Sweet Potatoes – 3 pounds
- Cornbread – 1 batch
- Cranberry Sauce – 1 can
- Gravy – 2 cups
- Stuffing – 1 large bowl
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the turkey by seasoning it and placing it in a roasting pan.
- Roast the turkey for about 3 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
- While the turkey cooks, prepare the collard greens by simmering them with spices.
- Cook the macaroni and cheese according to package instructions.
- Bake the sweet potatoes until soft, then mash with butter and sugar.
- Prepare cornbread as per the recipe.
- Make the stuffing and place it in the oven for the last 30 minutes of the turkey cooking.
- Heat the cranberry sauce and gravy on the stove.
- Serve all dishes together for a festive meal.
Notes
- Let the turkey rest for 30 minutes before carving.
- Use leftover turkey for sandwiches the next day.
