A simple guide to seasoning a turkey for Thanksgiving.

- 1 whole turkey (12–14 pounds)
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
- 1 tablespoon dried sage
- 1 lemon, halved
- 1 onion, quartered
- 4 cups chicken broth
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
- Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
- In a small bowl, mix salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, rosemary, and sage.
- Rub the olive oil all over the turkey.
- Season the turkey inside and out with the spice mixture.
- Stuff the cavity with lemon halves and onion quarters.
- Place the turkey in a roasting pan and add chicken broth to the pan.
- Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil.
- Roast the turkey for 2.5 to 3 hours, removing the foil for the last hour.
- Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (74°C).
- Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
Notes
- Adjust seasoning according to your taste.
- Brining the turkey a day before can enhance flavor.
- Use fresh herbs for a stronger taste.
