A classic roast turkey recipe perfect for Thanksgiving.

- 1 whole turkey (12–14 pounds)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 large onion, quartered
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- Fresh herbs (optional for stuffing)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry.
- In a bowl, mix butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and rosemary.
- Rub the butter mixture all over the turkey.
- Stuff the cavity with onion, carrots, celery, and fresh herbs if desired.
- Place the turkey on a rack in a roasting pan.
- Pour chicken broth into the pan.
- Cover the turkey with foil and roast for 2 hours.
- Remove the foil and roast for another 1-2 hours until golden brown.
- Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (75°C).
- Let the turkey rest for 30 minutes before carving.
Notes
- Use a meat thermometer for accurate cooking.
- Let the turkey thaw completely if frozen.
- Save the drippings for gravy.
- Try using apple and sage for added flavor.
