Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey (1214 lbs)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups chopped vegetables (carrots, celery, onion)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Remove the turkey from the packaging and pat dry with paper towels.
  3. In a bowl, mix the butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and rosemary.
  4. Rub the butter mixture all over the turkey and under the skin.
  5. Place chopped vegetables in the bottom of a roasting pan.
  6. Put the turkey on top of the vegetables in the pan.
  7. Pour chicken broth into the pan.
  8. Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil.
  9. Roast in the preheated oven for 2.5 to 3 hours.
  10. Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes to brown the skin.
  11. Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (74°C).
  12. Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.

Notes

  • Make sure the turkey is fully thawed before cooking.
  • Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
