Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 slices of rye bread
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until caramelized.
  2. In a bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to create the secret sauce.
  3. Form the ground beef into two patties and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Cook the patties in the skillet until desired doneness.
  5. Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
  6. Toast the rye bread slices in the same skillet with remaining butter.
  7. Assemble the sandwich: spread secret sauce on one side of the bread, add the patty with cheese, top with caramelized onions, and place another slice of bread on top.
  8. Cook the sandwich on both sides until golden brown.
