Ingredients
- Turkey – 1 whole, 14-16 pounds
- Butter – 1 cup, softened
- Salt – 2 tablespoons
- Pepper – 1 tablespoon
- Fresh herbs – 1 cup, chopped (thyme, rosemary, sage)
- Onion – 2 large, quartered
- Carrots – 4, chopped
- Celery – 4 stalks, chopped
- Chicken broth – 4 cups
- Stuffing – 1 large batch, prepared
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F.
- Prepare the turkey by patting it dry and rubbing it with softened butter.
- Season the turkey with salt and pepper, inside and out.
- Stuff the turkey with prepared stuffing.
- Place the turkey in a roasting pan and add onions, carrots, and celery around it.
- Pour chicken broth into the pan.
- Cover the turkey with aluminum foil.
- Roast in the oven for 2.5 to 3 hours, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- Remove the foil and roast for an additional 30 minutes for golden skin.
- Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
Notes
- Use fresh herbs for better flavor.
- Brine the turkey overnight for juiciness.
- Save the drippings for gravy.
- Adjust cooking time based on turkey size.
