Description
A traditional Dominican Thanksgiving dinner featuring classic dishes.
Ingredients
- Roast turkey – 1 whole (10-12 lbs)
- Sofrito – 1 cup
- Garlic – 6 cloves, minced
- Onion – 2 large, chopped
- Bell pepper – 1, chopped
- Oregano – 2 tsp
- Salt – 2 tsp
- Pepper – 1 tsp
- Olive oil – 1/2 cup
- Rice – 4 cups
- Black beans – 2 cans
- Plantains – 4, sliced
- Avocado – 2, sliced
- Green salad – 1 large bowl
- Sweet potatoes – 2, cubed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the turkey with sofrito, garlic, onion, bell pepper, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Rub olive oil over the turkey and place it in a roasting pan.
- Roast the turkey for about 3 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
- Cook rice according to package instructions.
- Heat black beans in a saucepan.
- Fry plantain slices until golden brown.
- Boil sweet potatoes until tender, then mash.
- Prepare a green salad with fresh vegetables.
- Slice avocado just before serving.
Notes
- Let the turkey rest for 30 minutes before carving.
- Adjust seasonings to taste.
- Serve with your favorite sauces.
