A deliciously satisfying classic inspired by Whataburger’s famous patty melt.
Ingredients

- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 slices of Texas toast
- 4 slices of American cheese
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
- Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in the skillet.
- Add sliced onions and cook until caramelized.
- Shape ground beef into patties and season with salt and pepper.
- Cook patties in the skillet for about 4 minutes on each side.
- Place a slice of cheese on each patty to melt.
- Butter one side of each slice of Texas toast.
- Assemble the sandwich: toast side down, add a patty with melted cheese, top with caramelized onions, and another slice of toast.
- Cook the sandwich for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Slice in half and serve hot.
Notes
- Feel free to use your favorite cheese.
- Adjust cooking time for desired doneness of beef.
