A deliciously satisfying classic inspired by Whataburger’s famous patty melt.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 slices of Texas toast
  • 4 slices of American cheese
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in the skillet.
  3. Add sliced onions and cook until caramelized.
  4. Shape ground beef into patties and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Cook patties in the skillet for about 4 minutes on each side.
  6. Place a slice of cheese on each patty to melt.
  7. Butter one side of each slice of Texas toast.
  8. Assemble the sandwich: toast side down, add a patty with melted cheese, top with caramelized onions, and another slice of toast.
  9. Cook the sandwich for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  10. Slice in half and serve hot.
