Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup poppy seeds
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 cup chopped fresh or frozen cherries
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and poppy seeds.
- In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, oil, eggs, and almond extract.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in cherries and almonds.
- Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan.
- Bake for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before slicing.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
- This bread can be frozen for up to 3 months.
- Replace cherries with blueberries for a different flavor.
